The town is known for its unique 3.2-mile strip along Florida State Road A1A, officially known as "Hillsboro Mile" within the town's boundaries. This strip is the only main road in town and is lined with residents' mansions, earning it the nickname "Millionaires' Mile" by locals and visitors alike.

Hillsboro Beach is located on the south end of a barrier island locally known as Deerfield Beach Island or Deerfield Cay. It is adjacent to Deerfield Beach to the north, Lighthouse Point across the Intracoastal Waterway to the west, Pompano Beach to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.
